The Close Encounters design is from VolumeĀ 23 ofĀ Dave's Picks, a series of limited release triple-disc live albums from the group. It pictures a detailed sketch ofĀ eight skeletons gathered around a campfire, one for each of the touring band members in 1978 when the live concert on the album was performed. Some of these characters are strumming their instruments while the others are welcoming the incoming spaceship from above.
